What is Invisalign?
Having an uneven smile can cause negative impacts on both the health and appearance of your smile. In order to correct your smile we may recommend orthodontic treatment. As an alternative to traditional braces, we can see if you qualify for Invisalign. Using clear plastic aligners, you can receive practically invisible smile correction. Our prosthodontist, Dr. Ambriz, is certified to treat misalignment with Invisalign.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?
First, correcting your misalignment can reduce the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, bruxism, and other common oral health concerns. With clear aligners, not only are the orthodontics barely noticeable, but they are also more comfortable. Other benefits include:
- Aligners can be removed prior to meals; you don’t need to change how you eat.
- Removable aligners allow easier brushing and flossing.
- Fewer office visits are required when compared to traditional orthodontics.
- In some cases, treatment times may be shorter than traditional orthodontic treatments.
How Do Aligners Work?
First, we will need to make sure Invisalign offers the best option for addressing your smile. Optimal candidates are over the age of 16 with minor alignment issues. If you qualify, Dr. Ambriz will take pictures and impressions of your smile, and the Invisalign lab will use these materials to create your aligners.
Once completed, you will wear the aligners daily for between 20 and 23 hours, removing them only for meals or when brushing/flossing your teeth. About every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set. Treatment typically takes about a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens.
