What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a permanent restoration that replaces a single missing tooth or a few missing teeth in a row. It consists of two parts: dental crowns and pontics, or artificial teeth. The teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth, called abutment teeth, are fitted with the dental crowns and serve  as anchors to hold the bridge in place. Attached to and between the crowns are the pontics, which bridge the gap in your smile.

What are the benefits of a dental bridge?

A dental bridge improves and supports your smile so that the appearance of your lips and cheeks are not affected by missing teeth. By replacing your lost teeth, the bridge can also stop your remaining teeth from shifting, and helps distribute bite pressure evenly to avoid bruxism and tooth damage.

How is a dental bridge placed?

To prepare your smile for a dental bridge, your dentist will anesthetize and then carefully shape the abutment teeth to accommodate the bridge’s crowns. Using detailed measurements and a mold of our teeth and dental ridge, a skilled ceramist will craft your lifelike bridge, and then we can permanently bond it in place during your next visit.
