Sedation Dentistry

Dental Sedation for Increased Comfort

To help patients relax, even the youngest ones who may feel anxious when facing a dental procedure, Dr. Truong offers nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or a combination of the two. Nitrous oxide is a gas that is administered through a breathing mask. Safe and effective, even for children, nitrous oxide induces feelings of warmth and euphoria while alleviating discomfort. It is also highly controllable, as the effects wear off within minutes of the mask being removed. Oral sedation involves administering an anti-anxiety medication before the procedure to induce a deeply relaxed state. Dr. Truong also offers oral conscious sedation, which is a combination of nitrous oxide and oral medication. You will not be completely asleep with oral conscious sedation, but you may not remember much about your procedure the next day. While nitrous oxide alone wears off quickly so that you can drive yourself home, the effects of oral sedatives linger for a while, so you will need to secure a ride to and from your dental appointment.
