crowns

Our teeth are under almost constant assault. Bacteria strive to weaken our defensive layer of enamel and cause cavities to form. In addition, injuries to the face or mouth can often result in chipped or cracked teeth. To return a compromised tooth to full function and beauty, you will require a quality dental restoration, such as a dental crown.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a restoration that fits over the visible portion of your tooth. Dental crowns are made from a number of different materials, including metal, porcelain, and zirconia. Your Dallas TX dentist, Dr. Diep Truong, offers eMax ceramic crowns for teeth near the front of the mouth, since ceramic mimics the appearance of natural enamel. For teeth near the back, which must withstand much greater bite forces, your Dallas TX dentist will place a zirconia crown. Zirconia crowns are esthetically pleasing and very strong. A crown can be placed for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Restoring a tooth following a root canal
  • Repairing a tooth with advanced decay
  • Replacing a lost tooth by anchoring a dental bridge or topping a dental implant
  • Restoring a chipped or cracked tooth
  • Masking cosmetic issues

If you have any questions about our dental crowns, or any of our other restorations, then contact your Dallas TX dentist today.

What Does the Placement Process Involve?

First, Dr. Truong will prepare the tooth by removing a small of amount of tooth structure to make room for the crown. She will then make an impression, which will be sent to a dental laboratory. At the lab, an expert ceramist will fabricate your new restoration using the impression. This process takes about two weeks and you will wear a temporary crown during this time. Once the restoration is complete, you will return to the office. Dr. Truong will check the fit and place your crown using a powerful bonding agent.
