Dental misalignment can occur for a number of reasons, and leave behind crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth for teens and adults. Which is why we offer orthodontics treatment to straighten smiles and offer better bite balance. In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, family dentist talks about how our team can help improve the alignment of your smile!
The Benefits of Correcting Uneven Smiles
Dental misalignment means that thorough brushing and flossing is more difficult, which can increase the risk of tooth decay and periodontal issues for patients of all ages. For kids, poor alignment could be due to issues with the growth of the jaw and key oral structures, and with treatment the risk of poor breathing at night and subsequent sleep and behavioral issues could be higher. Uneven teeth may also leave the smile vulnerable to issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism. People could also feel embarrassed about their smile, which could impact their social life. But our team could help with orthodontics! Simply give us a call to schedule a consultation so we can examine the smile and see what treatments you require for a straighter smile.
Braces
For teens and adults with more severe alignment concerns, we could offer braces. In as little as two years, this could strengthen your smile and help improve your oral health and bite function in the process. The treatment involves attaching metal brackets to the front of each tooth. Once we do, we will attach a portion of a thin arch wire with a band. When you visit our office, our latest team member Dr. Mo will adjust tension in the wire to help shift the teeth closer and closer to their optimal positions.
Invisalign®
Dr. Mo and our team can also offer a more cosmetic approach to orthodontics with Invisalign®. With this option, we don’t need brackets or wires at all. Instead, our team will create a series of custom clear aligners. Each aligner set is worn for about 20 to 23 hours each day, over a period of about two weeks. After which you wear the next set for the same amount of time, and continue this process for a year in most cases.
