Halloween will be here before you know it, and too much candy could lead to cavities and infections. But our team wants to help safeguard your smile, and your kids’ smiles too! Which is why we’re proud to once again offer our Candy Buy Back program! In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, family dentist talks about fighting the risk of tooth decay following Halloween.
Halloween and Tooth Decay
We know how much kids enjoy trick or treating, and we want them to have a great time going door-to-door in their neighborhood or building to gather up treats. But at the same time, we understand that a sudden influx of sugar in their diets could be a recipe for painful toothaches and cavities, even infections that could threaten the stability of the teeth. Which is why we started the Candy Buy Back program, a program we have been doing for several years now! Just keep an eye on our blog and social media pages for more information, so you know the exact dates and times to bring in your kids’ excess sweets.
The Candy Buy Back Program
We don’t want your kids to not trick or treat, or to feel sad their candy is being taken away, which is why we want to buy it from your kids! We are offering a dollar a pound for their treats, so they can get cash and maybe buy a fun toy or something instead of increasing their cavity risk. We then donate the treats to Operation Gratitude, which distributes them to our soldiers overseas. We will have this at either our Richardson or Dallas location, and we will have details available soon so you can plan!
Avoiding Cavities
We also have a few tips for helping kids protect their smiles. First, be wary of candies with sticky ingredients like caramel, these are more likely to increase cavity risk. Milk chocolate is easier to remove with brushing and flossing. Speaking of, be sure your children brush twice a day for two minutes each time, in the morning and again at night. A rice-sized bit of fluoride toothpaste is good for children under three, and kids over three can use a pea-sized amount. Flossing is also essential as this removes what a toothbrush alone cannot.
