statefair

Once a month, we like to take the time to let our patients know about upcoming events in the community. For September, a big event is on the horizon. In just two weeks, you and your family can once again take in the sites and sounds of the state fair. Of course, the State Fair of Texas also includes a number of fatty, fried, and admittedly delicious, treats that may not be great for your smile. Dr. Diep Truong discuses what’s new at the state fair and offers some ideas for healthy snack alternatives.

Fun for the Whole Family

Like every year, this year’s state fair will feature games, attractions, and Big Tex. 2014 also offers a few new attractions, including an exhibit dedicated to Texas’ sport legends, the debut of the Red River Music Festival, and the all-new Kid’s Boardwalk. The fair opens at 10am on September 26th and will run until October 19th. Tickets are $13-$17 and can be purchased now online or at any Kroger store. The State Fair of Texas will be located at Fair Park, 1300 Robert B. Cullum, Dallas, TX. You can also call (214) 426-3400 for more information or visit bigtex.com.

Snack Healthy!

While wandering the fair grounds, you may be tempted by all the fried and sugary treats that surround you. To stay hydrated and better enjoy your day, we suggest drinking water instead of sodas. You can also save a little cash by bringing your own snacks. Fresh vegetables, sandwiches, and crackers offer a healthier and cheaper alternative to typical fair foods. You can look online or check out our previous blog posts covering healthy snack options for more ideas. We hope you and your family has the opportunity to enjoy the State Fair of Texas.
