dallas childrens dentistryChildren need routine dental care, which is why we offer pediatric dentistry for kids of all ages. From checkups to sealants and even treatments for airway obstruction, we can help kids enjoy their best possible smile. In today’s blog, Viva Dental Family Dentistry provides better oral health in Dallas, TX.

Children’s Dentistry Starts with an Exam

Children need to see the dentist on a regular basis, just like adults do! The routine care helps us monitor their smiles as they grow and change, so we can address concerns in their earliest stages. This helps prevent concerns like tooth decay and gingivitis, and we can take action when issues like misalignment develop in the early stages. This also gives us a chance to talk to your kids about proper brushing and flossing, and how to care for their smiles, and the importance of doing so. This can help lower the risk of dental anxiety too!

In the same sitting, we also clean the teeth. With a professional dental cleaning, we can gently remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth to keep smiles bright and lower the risk of tooth decay. Kids need one every six months starting at around age two.

Cavity Prevention

Part of our approach to children’s dental care includes cavity prevention. For example, during their routine checkup and cleaning visit, our team can apply fluoride to the outside of the teeth. This naturally-occurring mineral helps keep the outer enamel strong and lowers the risk of enamel for months to come. We also recommend a fluoride toothpaste for kids too!

We also help kids with dental sealants. For many, properly brushing and flossing the rear teeth could be difficult. This means food and drink particles could stay trapped there, allowing cavities to develop. But we can provide a dental sealant to the rear teeth, which coats them so food and drink particles cannot be trapped there, lowering the risk of cavities. Dental sealants can stay in place for years to come, possibly a decade in some cases!

Pediatric Evaluations

For some children, limited breathing at night due to airway obstruction could impact their ability to focus and behave during the day, delaying emotional and educational milestones and leaving them exhausted and struggling. But we can help! We can conduct an airway evaluation, and discuss oral appliance treatment to help keep airways open and clear, so children can rest easy at night and feel more alert during the day.
